The mapping crowd-sourcing program, known as The National Map Corps (TNMCorps), encourages citizens to collect structures data by adding new features, removing obsolete points, and correcting existing data for The National Map, which includes the Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) and the US Topo map series. Of the structure types available to edit, cemeteries may be of particular interest to genealogists. As one of the cornerstones of the U.S. Geological Survey’s (USGS) National Geospatial Program, The National Map is a collaborative effort among the USGS and other Federal, State, and local partners to improve and deliver topographic information for the Nation. As of April 2017 over 2,000 volunteers have made over 352,000 edits to more than 257,000 unique points.
